Each year more than 20'000 people self build a new home - 10% of all new houses built. In main land Europe 60 per cent of new properties may be self built. And with the growth in self build increasing there is no reason why you could not. It no longer requires the inside networking that it did 10 years ago with full packages available - from turn key homes through to mortgages specifically for self build homes.
Self build simply means buying a plot of land and managing the project and employing contractors, or employing a builder to manage the entire project. A self build can serve many purposes - to build a dream house, or to build to a higher specification or to save money.
A self-build generates gains of 20%-30% on completion. A self-build house enables the self builder to construct their home at cost price, i.e. the cost of the building of land for sale, materials and labour - cutting out the profits made my property developers. Savings are also made on materials - new builds are not subject to VAT.
