Locating a suitable building plot is one of the first and most challenging stages in self-build. From the perspective of the land investor - they require land with specific requirements to gain the most from their land investment. Large land development companies often quickly buy the majority of land for sale.

Land is traditionally sold within established networks of property developers, only land that did not sell would be advertised to the public at large. In recent years land agents have opened their doors to the public interested in both self-build and land investment.

Land agents are fighting back on behalf of the self builders - buying plots close to residential development in bulk and then offering residential building plots to self-builders and speculative investors - land that may otherwise have been sold to property developers.

The buying power of these companies is greater than most individuals - this allows for plots in prime locations to be supplied to individuals. The land is the divided up into plots upwards of 1/10th od an Acre - much more manageable for a building plot or land investment.
